SANTO DOMINGO.- The Port of Santo Domingo welcomed yesterday for the first time ever, the arrival of the vessel “ MV Artania”, which docked in the Sans Souci Terminal, with 916 cruise tourists on board. The ship, developed in 1984, features a length of 230 meters, weighs 44,348 tonnes and hosts a total passenger capacity of 1,260.
It is the largest ship in the German cruise line, Phoenix Reisen, focused mainly towards the German market, and characterized for its luxury spaces and classic style services, as was informed by Port sources. All rooms are ocean view staterooms, a unique characteristic for a ship of said dimensions.
It features nine decks where all cruisers feature an ample offer of recreational spaces and ballrooms, in which they can enjoy German-style classic fun, such as the traditional “Morning Pint” – which makes reference to the German tradition of drinking beer in the morning- or the “Coffee Party” – an afternoon coffee tasting-.
The comfort and traditional style in all details hosted in this ship, have caused for many passengers to become steady cruise patrons in this and other Phoenix Reisen cruise ships, as indicated by the press release. The ship began its journey in Saint Marteen, then the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, and once its visit concludes in Santo Domingo, it will set sail towards Haiti and Cuba.
As part of the welcoming protocol to first-time docking ships in the Port of Santo Domingo, an exchange of plaques took place, headed by the Port CEO, Jaime Castillo Jorge, the commercial director, Sahron Mei; the Communications Manager, Julia Tábora, and the ship captain, Muehlebach Elmar, alongside other crewmembers.
During this reception, Castillo welcomed the captain and delivered a commemorative plaque, as well as an artisanal replica of the La Pinta vessel, one of the three ships that docked in the New World in 1492. Castllo highlighted that the visit of the “MV Artania” for the first time in Santo Domingo represents a step further in the consolidation of the capital as a cruise destination, and showed his satisfaction and gratitude to the line for having chosen the First City as one of its priority stops in the journey.
