Progreso Closed by 2012 with Optimum Results

Banco del Progreso closed their FY2012 with optimum indicators and significant improvements in their assigned grading by Feller-Rate (BBB+) with stable perspectives and category 2 on all long-term deposits (1year term)

“The solid structural, operational and control implemented by the entity sustained this valuation”, as is stated in the Bank’s 2012 Annual Report, which also emphasized by Feller-Rate, took into consideration the reorientation the bank has developed towards massive segments and the greatest operational diversification. The Progreso assets increased by 7.9%, from RD$16,285 million in 2011, to RD$39,166 million in 2012. The same pattern is observed in the deposits area, indicating a growth of 7.5%, going from RD$32,032 million to RD$34,419 million.

“Upon the closing of FY2012, our numbers spoke strongly. The KFIs of Banco del Progreso increased significantly versus the 2011 closing.”, so explained the Progreso CEO, Mark Silverman, among other details which make emphasis on the evident public trust in the registered increase in savings.

Progreso has achieved active marketshare. The Chairman of the Progreso Board of Directors, Juan Vicini Lluberes, quotes the newly launched products aimed in that direction: Doble Cuenta Progreso, American Express® Debit card, the Cuenta Corriente Productiva, the new Wells Fargo Express Remittance service, among others which include attractive promos for the clientele.

CUSTOMER-AIMED SERVICES. BUSINESS

The Doble Cuenta Progreso increased benefits for customers in their savings and expenditures, financing facilities in traditional products (personal credit, vehicle loans, deferred credit). Mortgage loans grew by 9.4%, credit cards to 14.9% and consumer loans to 2.7%.

Bank Inaugurates Customer Service Call Center

Aiming to increase quality customer service to its clientele, the CEO of Banco del Progreso, Mark Silverman, inaugurated the new modern call center facilities. The locale was blessed by Deacon Wilson Morales of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parrish.

“This new call center shows the trust bestowed upon us by our shareholders, given that they understand this is an investment that will prevail in providing a more efficacious service that will allow to qualify the integration of the Call Center to the total commercial restructuring works taking place within the Bank”, Silverman indicated.

Bernard Martínez, VP of Marketing & Product Development, pointed out that the new infrastructure and the new design layout, meet the standards of all core values and best practices exercised in this type of facility worldwide.

“This new call center, forms part of the actions taken by Banco del Progreso to continue offering quality and efficient customer service, alongside an avant-garde and modern vision”, Martínez stated.

Both executives pointed out that they have worked hard to develop what is now a modern center which supports commercial, sales and the operational works of the Bank.

Mark Silverman is Reelected as Chairman of the Dominican-Swiss Chamber of Commerce

The Progreso CEO, Mark Silverman, was reelected as president of the Dominican-Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Tourism for another year-long term, during the Ordinary General Assembly celebrated by the entity, which took place in the Board of Directors Meeting Room at the Banco del Progreso HQ.

Silverman was sworn in by the Honorary Chairwoman of the Chamber, Swiss Ambassador, Mme. Line-Marie Leon-Pernet. The reelected president detailed his objectives and key plans to promote during this new mandate, by thanking the decision of Chamber officials to allow him to continue presiding the organization.

“I will aim my efforts to continue promoting programs and projects which promote the institutional development of the Chamber, as well as the promotion of business trade relationships between Switzerland and the Dominican Republic”, Silverman added.

He pointed out that he will strengthen the Chamber mission to promote general trade interests, promote tourism, become a channel of access into the Swiss market, as well as offering member companies all necessary information on tariff rates and the proper mechanisms to export into Switzerland or to import merchandise of Swiss origin.

Alongside Silverman, the new board is formed by: Swiss Ambassador, Mme Line-Marie Leon-Pernet as Honorary chairowman; Gaetan Bucher, vice-president; Bruno Eberle, treasurer; and Diego Blanco, secretary. Also as vocals: Raúl De Moya, Carlos Ros, Andrea Bolini, Wandy Ramírez, Miguel Gonzálvez, Benjamin Egli Jr, and María Jesus Fernández de Schad.

During the GOA, the Annual Report results were made public on behalf of the exiting board, as well as the treasury report. Also, a plaque of recognition was given to Bruno Eberle, president of the Newspaper Direct Caribbean, as a distinguished member for his vast efforts and dedication for ten years in benefit of the Dominican-Swiss Chamber

The Pinewood Indomina Novelties

The Pinewood Indomina Studios continue to develop. Recently, President Medina was received together with personalities from the local and international film sector, as well as from other areas in order to get acquainted with these facilities, which, sans doubt will serve as baseline for the development of the local film industry, as well as for international productions produced inland.

The guests were greeted by Mr. Felipe Vicini, chairman of the Indomina Board of Directors. Also present were Hugo Swire, Minister of Foreign Affairs to the UK for Latin America, and Mr. Nick Smith, commercial director for Pinewood Shepperton, among others.

The occasion was suitable to launch the “Water Tank” , an immense special swimming pool designed for filming aquatic scenes, and so far, considered the second largest worldwide.

Entities Internship Facilitation Agreement

The Banco del Progreso and the PUCMM (Pontifical Catholic Mater et Magistra University) agreed to implement an internship program for Professional Practices, so that students enrolled in the academic institution can apply for internships in the financial entity, aiming to promote intellectual and professional development of all selected students.

The agreement was underwritten by Progreso CEO, Mark Silverman, and the PUCMM Chancellor, Monsignor Agripino Núnez Collado, amid an act which was hosted in the Rectory Hall of the St. Thomas Aquinas Campus.

The bank will request internship candidates to the University, as needs arise, and as a way to maintain updated student registration within the university, a student performance report will be submitted from every pre-selected student.

The agreement will be valid for two years, and can be extended unless both parties decide to rescind it.

It has been stipulated that the agreement holds no exclusivity character, this meaning signees are not bound to any type of restriction on underwriting similar agreements with other entities with regards to student practice internship programs.

Santo Domingo. The Caribbean Ferries Foundation carried out a medical drive which benefited over 4,500 persons in the Sans Soucí Terminal facilities of the Port of Santo Domingo, whom were able to receive outpatient consultations in the fields of general medicine, ophthalmology, cardiology, pediatrics, urology, breast cancer, gynecology, dermatology, psychiatry and dental consult services.

La Ciénaga, Los Guandules, Gualey, Guachupita, La Zurza, Capotillo, Villa Mella, Los Alcarrizos, Herrera, 27 de Febrero, 24 de Abril, Puya de Arroyo Hondo, Sabana Perdida, and Maria Auxiliadora, were some of the sectors whom benefited from this operation which featured free medical assistance, free prescription delivery and prescriptions for reading glasses to persons of scarce financial resources.

Staff

A team composed by 100+ doctors, 30 nurses, 15 pharmacists and 80 volunteers from Puerto Rico and the D.R, implemented this medical drive in addition to staff from the Dominican Air Force, the National Army, the Ministry of Armed Forces, the Naval Corps, the National Police, the Dominican Red Cross and other institutions which joined in on the initiative.

The drive also featured workshop sessions on breast cancer prevention and cervical cancer, with the aim of raising awareness regarding these diseases.

Caribbean Racing School Announces Rally

The Caribbean Racing School will host the First Caribbean Automobile Rally, which will take place the 15th of this month, with an 80Km distance, sponsored by Shell V-Power.

The race will feature an 80Km distance, departing from and reaching as destination point, the Shell MegaPort, located in the Las Americas Freeway, next to the Puerto Caucedo entrance.

The event, organized by the school, partnered with the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and features sponsorship by Shell V-Power. All details on the event were offered by Demetrio Almonte, Shell executive and Luis Sanchez, of the Driving School

The race will feature an 80Km distance, departing from and reaching as destination point, the Shell MegaPort, located in the Las Americas Freeway, next to the Puerto Caucedo entrance

This competition is known for its security strategies for contestants as well as the general public. The race will feature a division of categories: 4×2, 4×4, open to 4×4 Jeep Offroad and Buggy. Previously, all amateur drivers would receive a training course in this type of discipline. Previously, the School was chosen to choose the national representative for the Caribbean Racing Academy of the International Automobile Federation Institute.

President Medina Inaugurates the Water Tank in Modern Film Compound

Featuring the presence of President Danilo Medina, the Water Tank was formally inaugurated, to be used for aquatic scene filming, in Juan Dolio.

President Medina made a tour all over the Pinewood Indomina facilities. The Pinewood Indomina Studios will be launched when the first stage of the project development is concluded.

This studio is being developed by VICINI. The key address was made by Felipe Vicini, whom highlighted the importance of the legal framework offered by the country.

“This water tank is the second largest in the world, and features the most avant-garde technology and engineering required by this type of structure. It is formally operational as of today, what was once a dream to many, is as of now a reality”, Vicini said.

At the same time, Vicini highlighted that the investment made by the IFC, a World Bank corporation, has committed USD$20million in this project, asides facilitating another USD$10 million through syndication.

“These local and foreign investments, promote the development of the film industry in our nation and will promote the creation of over 10,000 jobs in the next five years”, Vicini said.

“We also want to thank our partners at Pinewood, a British company of vast trajectory in film production. Pinewood has entrusted us and also in the investment climate the D.R offers to invest in a project of said magnitude”.

Vicini was joined by his siblings, Juan and Amelia, as well as Hugo Swire, MFA to Latin America for the UK and Mr. Nick Smith, commercial director for Pinewood Shepperton.

President Medina Visits Pinewood Indomina Studios

JUAN DOLIO. The demo of a squall at high seas- which really forms part of an EPK which is filmed on the Water Tank – served as benchmark for President Danilo Medina, and many other guests attending on this official visit to the Pinewood-Indomina Studios, so they could witness firsthand what this investment is good for.

Felipe Vicini, chairman of the Indomina Board of Directors, welcomed the President, and thanked the State for its support, as well as Hugo Swire, Minister of Foreign Affairs for Latin America to the UK, MFA Carlos Morales Troncoso, Culture Minister José Antonio Rodríguez, and other present personalities.

Likewise, Vicini informed that the World Bank’s IFC – corporation that invests for the first time in the development of the studio works- has allocated USD$20 million to invest in the project, asides facilitating an additional USD$10 million in loans through “syndication” (These funds are aimed to capture films to produce in the studios).

The total development investment is USD$70 million. So far some USD$45 million have been disbursed. The construction of the studio compound is the responsibility of the GINAKA Construction company, headed by Architect Pedro Haché, so learned by this newspaper.

These foreign as well as local investments will promote the development of the local film industry, and will also help create over 10,000 jobs within the next five years, Vicini said, whom praised the legal framework provided by the D.R. for this type of investment, and for the development of the film industry.

President Medina and other guests, visited the production offices, dressing rooms, first-aid station, and Water Tank tunnel, then the Northern Lot, where the final stages for developing the sets, workshops, general production and post-production area, as well as the Indomina “Media Park”.
