SD.  During the Cruise season 2012-2013, the MSC Lirica brought along some 18,000 tourists to the Sans Soucí Port, in Santo Domingo, and to close the cycle, thus promoting a taste of Dominican culture among the visitors,  the port’s management team organized a special farewell. The MSC Lirica , featuring tourists, mainly of European and Latin American origin, was bid farewell with a carnivalesque theme, in celebration of carnival season, adorned by the rhythm and color typical of the characters conforming this celebration.

The ship docked in Santo Domingo in order to make their last dockage of the season, a term amid which it docked ten times, thus forming part of the formal debut of tourist arrivals to the Prime City of the Americas.

The farewell to all vessel passengers was animated by a Carnival parade organized by the Youths for a Better Colonial Zone Foundation ( Fundación Jóvenes por una Mejor Zona Colonial, a neighbouring community to the Port of Santo Domingo, whom paraded in their costumes and emblematic attires typical of this tradition, hence infusing he venue with enthusiasm. Likewise, amid the activity, the tourists sampled many Dominican products such as beer and chocolate, in their many presentations.

Sharon Mei, Commercial Director of Sans Soucí Ports, emphasized the importance of showing the cultural and folkloric traditions of the Dominican Republic to the tourists. “The carnival is a tourist attraction, that needs to be promoted among tourists because it allows them to partake in one of our most joyful traditions”.

Aiming to promote Dominican culture among cruise tourists, Sans Soucí Ports organized a special farewell to passengers of the MSC Lirica, which made port in Santo Domingo, to make its last stop of the season 2012-2013.

The MSC Lirica, featured tourists mainly from Europe and Latin America, was bid farewell with a carnivalesque farewell celebration, on occasion of carnival season, with the rhythm and colors typical of the personages whom integrate this celebration.

During 2012-2013 season, some 18,000 passengers were on board the MSC Lirica, which docked ten times in the city of Santo Domingo, thus marking the formal debut in tourist arrivals to the Prime city of America.

The farewell to vessel passengers featured a Carnival parade arranged by the Youths for a Better Colonial Zone Foundation (Jóvenes por una Mejor Zona Colonial), a neighbouring community surrounding the Port of Santo Domingo, whom paraded with costumes and typical outfits, emblematic of the tradition, which infused the venue with joy and enthusiasm.

The carnival is a tourist attraction that needs to be distinguished, because it allows visitors to identify with one of our most happy traditions, thus manifesting the cultural riches of our nation and the identity of the Dominican People”, said Mei.

Galleon of Cadiz Will Be Open to Public Until March 3rd

SANTO DOMINGO. The Constitution of Cadiz galleon, which is anchored in the Port of Sans Soucí, opened its doors to the public, thus making the Dominican Republic its first visited destination, since it left Europe in order to cross the Atlantic. Further on it will visit San Juan in Puerto Rico, Cartagena de Indias or Veracruz in Colombia, and will also participate in the XXIII Summit of Heads of State to be hosted in Panama.

The vessel will open its doors to the public from 9am- 5pm, and will have a cover charge of RD$200.00p/p. Tickets can be purchased directly in Sans Soucí Port.

The opening activity was chaired by the Spanish Ambassador in the Dominican Republic, Jaime Lacadena Higuera, and the ship captain, Manuel Murube, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During his speech, the Spanish diplomat said “conceived and financed through 100% Spanish capital, the construction of this vessel is a notable example of the achievements attained by the Spanish People today, as proof that doing things right and with pride is what is known as the “Made in Spain” brand.

The La Pepa Galleon, originally christened as the Andalusia Galleon, was built in 2010, with purpose of serving as cultural ambassador to the Constitution of Cadiz, known as La Pepa, signed in 1812. Its structure is an exact replica of the galleons which commanded the delta trading zone between Europe, The Americas and Asia in the XVIII Century.

The vessel set sail from Tenerife earlier in the month in order to begin their Ibero-American tour.

Spanish Galleon “Constitution” Docks in DR Port

The Spanish galleon, “The Constitution”, from Cadiz, Spain, which, commandingly docked, after covering the first route made during the 1st voyage of Christopher Columbus.

Next month will be the official inauguration of this vessel, a replica of the galleons and embarkations which navigated the waters amid the colonization of America.

As told to LISTIN DIARIO yesterday, Miguel Talegón, one of the spokesmen for the crew, the vessel, handmade, arrived after sailing the Atlantic, at 7am. It sailed from Spain 21 days ago and stopped at the Canary Islands. “We replicated the same route made by Columbus”. The Constitution evokes the Constitution of Cadiz in 1812”, he precised. Talegón informed that its doors will be open to the public starting next Monday. The vessel features a crew of 32.

“It is an evocation of those times when vessels navigated the seas, seeking the unknown in far ends of the world, and now we bring it to the Dominican Republic as proof of our close friendship ties”, said Talegón.

Banco Popular and GCS Systems Win the Young Marketers Cup

Young marketers Yasser Mármol and María Elena Moré, of Banco Popular Dominicano, and GCS Systems (tPago), respectively won the Young Marketers Cup by Cazar DDB and will represent the country in the prestigious Creative Advertising Festival Cannes Lions, which will be hosted in the known Cote D’Azur in France.

The winning dup will compete the whole month of June alongside the representatives from other countries to attain the international award.

According to a press release issued by Banco Popular, the Young Marketers Cup of the Dominican Republic was created in 2009 by an initiative launched by the CAZAR DDB Advertising Agency. Three years later the Young Marketers Academy is created, with the purpose of gathering 40 of the best young marketers in the country, to promote their talent and skills, in a process that culminates with the assessment and selection of candidates that will represent the nation in the abovementioned contest.

For this occasion, the award was handed during a ceremony hosted at the Popular Tower. The award was received by Manuel A. Grullón, President of Banco Popular Dominicano, and Brian Paniagua, CEO of GCS Systems, by Carlos Azar, CEO of Cazar DDB, and Carlos Suárez, Representative of Cannes Lions to the Dominican Republic.

When we saw the Alfa Romeo 4C prototype for the first time, the expectations were very diverse. It could turn out to be just a concept car, or for a dream to come true and set production in motion.

Well, the dream will come true, the definitive Alfa 4C will be officially launched next March at the Geneva Motor Show and will suppose the recovery inheritance-wise of the most classic “Alfist” design adapted to present times. It will be moved by one of the most classic brand engines: the modern reinterpretation of the mythical 1750.

The 4C is a two-seater sports car featuring RWD and engine which employs technologies and materials derived from competition vehicles, carbon fiber and lightweight materials.

Its style and dimensions reminisce some iconic models featured in the Alfa history: the 8C Competizione regarding style and design, and the 33 Stradale in dimensions, which features less than 4meters length, 2 meters width and 118 cm height.

The propellant responsible for its motion is a 4 cylinder between 230/250 HP evolution of 1750 already present in the Quadrifoglio Verdi Giulietta version. The engine block is built in aluminum and the intake and exhaust system have been modified to emphasize the sport sense of the model. It also features advanced technical solutions such as direct fuel injection, double variance in valves phasing and turbo compressor featuring a “scavenging” system, which reduces the turbo response time.

This engine is associated to a double clutch automatic-sequential transmission “Alfa TCT”, which a benchmark in low weight and speed shifting. Also features the “Alfa DNA”which for this occasion not only includes the three available configurations so far: Dynamic, Natural and All Weather- but also features a “Race” mode, designed to improve the extreme and aggressive driving experience known as “racing”. The model will reach the markets this year, its price will not surpass USD$50L and will also be commercialized in the USA.
