SANTO DOMINGO. Due to the arrival of four additional cruise lines, the number of cruise tourists has increased and an avant-garde university internship program, Sansoucí- Port of Santo Domingo, formally commenced this Friday, November 2nd, their 2012-2013 cruise season, with the arrival of the Aida Aura.
MSC Cruise Lines, Voyager of Discovery, Passat Kreuzfahrlen, and Sea Dream Yacht Club, are the new Cruise Lines that will hereinafter dock at the Port of Santo Domingo. These commencements expand the flux of vessels and lines using Sansoucí as main and transit harbor, which influences by doubling the amount of cruise tourists that access Santo Domingo via this modern terminal.
This Friday the 2nd, the Aida Laura arrived, bringing along 1,582 passengers, and the same company will dock again, this time with the Aida Luna, docking with some 2,500 tourists, whom will be visiting Santo Domingo. In the specific case of the MSC Lirica, which is open to the local market, it will part from Sansoucí, Port of Santo Domingo, starting December 19th, visiting the ports of La Romana, St. Marteen, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Antigua and Barbuda and the British Virgin Islands.
Likewise, through the program “Cruise Friendly”, a space is open to now invite cruise tourists to a quality and excellence experience with the attendance of Tourism Management students from APEC University. Via “ Cruise Friendly” visitors have access to specialized treatment and official information from the moment they arrive in the Sansoucí and Don Diego terminals, during their visit to the Historic Olde City, all the way until they depart from the Santo Domingo destination. On their end, UNAPEC students will intern at Sansoucí in practical manner, thus consolidating a vision of the cruise industry which transcends the classroom. Eng. Jaime Castillo, CEO of Sans Soucí Ports, stated that with the present season, Santo Domingo debuts as cruise destination. “This tourist industry can make a significant contribution within the State goals regarding increasing tourism in the country, and its consequent boosting of the economy”, he affirmed.
Castillo thanked the support received from the Ministry of Tourism, the Santo Domingo Tourist Cluster, and the City Hall of the National District. On that tenor, the Sans Soucí Ports CEO congratulated the integration of the main organisms responsible for ensuring tourist safety: Tourist Police (POLITUR), Metropolitan Transit Authority (AMET), Specialized Port Security Corps (CESEP), the National Police (PN) and other entities whom partook in the previous coordination of the current 2012-2013 cruise season.
