tPago, the GCS International mobile payment platform, which began its operations in 2010, and so far features 300,000 registered users, this meaning, 16% of the banking population, announced its expansion to Colombia, Guatemala, Salvador, and Puerto Rico, as the first phase of its expansion throughout the LATAM (Latin American) region.

According to information provided by their main executives, headed by Manuel Alejandro Grullón Hernández, Brian Paniagua, Day Jiménez and Yaqui Núnez del Risco, the decision to expand is the result of its achieved market share, among them,  the ability for users to perform 600thousand transactions per month, transactions that in two years, surpass USD$69million, registering a growth rate of 57% in its clientele volume, in the past year alone.

But also the expansion to other LATAM countries, is the result of anthropologic studies carried out by the company alongside international organizations which indicate the solid growth rate these platforms will experience in the coming years, projecting a total registered user portfolio of 140 million.

tPago, according to Paniagua, its CEO, they seek to reduce the banking deficit currently affecting the region, which is cause for decrease of its economic potential, because approximately 60% of the adult population in LATAM countries has no relation whatsoever to banking entities.

“This product seeks to provide users freedom, a freedom to allow them using a single channel to perform different transactions with the different banks they work with, with mobile carriers, utility providers, and so on,” said Paniagua.

Regarding the operational safety, Grullón Hernández indicated that the utilized system is USSD, a data transfer channel present in all GSM networks, which does not save any transactional details and is easy to use. The expansion announcement was made on Wednesday the 8th, during a gathering hosted at the W Hotel of South Beach, Florida in the US.
