Resources for Children in Need

Santo Domingo. As a way to support social initiatives which impact Dominican society, the Banco del Progreso donated resources for children to five social institutions located strategically nationwide, thus impacting childhood in the DR positively through education. This action forms part of the Progreso corporate social responsibility plan towards betterments in its social surroundings.

The beneficiary entities were the Hogar Virgen de Lourdes, a shelter for orphans and abandoned children located in Salcedo; the Centro Educativo Nazaret, which promotes a school teaching the poor children of the Verón community. Also the Villa Esperanza Shelter of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, in Azua; which supports children through education and nourishment of orphaned children and of scarce means.

Also Futuro Posible, an entity hosting different projects in Santiago as well as Santo Domingo and works in favor of children living in foster homes and orphanages, offering them health and education facilities. Likewise the Hogar de Ninas de Dios, which sponsors aid in nourishment and education for orphans and abused children in Santiago.

María Isabel Grullón, VP of Communication and Corporate Affairs, assured this gesture by Banco del Progreso is a sustained sample of their drive for social causes which have an important impact in the most vulnerable population segment, children.

Pinewood Indomina Studios, Closer to Reality

 

San Pedro de Macorís. “This is an historical initiative; a time when utopia turns into reality, at which dreams and illusions which had been held for years, crystallize and become a concrete project”, stated President Leonel Fernández when he gave the symbolic first shovel of the future cinematographic studios “Pinewood Indomina Studios”.

During the first phase, the works, which will be built in the Juan Dolio community, will consist of three studios, at a cost exceeding US$50 million.

For such purpose, the Vicini Group signed an agreement with Pinewood Shepperton cinematographic studios, a prestigious British company responsible for the production of films such as: James Bond, Aliens, Batman, Mission Impossible, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Harry Potter saga, among others.

After congratulating the Vicini family for this initiative, the President stated that with the Movies Law the country has “a legal framework which turns it into an adequate destination for the entertainment industry”.

Fernández assured that, if this is linked to tourism, the country´s main source of income, the development of the cinematography industry and television production would turn the Dominican Republic into a center of attention.

Pinewood Indomina Studios

The cinematography studios to be built in this land constitute “materialization of one of the most relevant initiatives of the national economy, since it will develop the entertainment and real estate industries”, stated Felipe Vicini, president of the group. He said that, in addition, they will have a significant impact on employment for the San Pedro de Macorís’ population.

Vicini added that the initiative will develop a vocational and practical institute to provide local personnel with the technical and technological capacities so that Pinewood Indomina becomes the beginning and destination of qualified talents.

“Indomina Studios will be ready to collaborate with the development of this sector, and also, to promote a culture of Dominican films”, he said.

Pinewood Indomina Studios has the objective of developing, producing, and distributing the movie contents, whether Dominican films or not, co-productions or foreign productions in the United States, Europe, and Latin America.

Present at the ceremony were the executive president of Indomina Group, Jasbinder Singh Mann, who spoke during the event and emphasized the objective of the center is to create training programs for local talents and develop capacities. Ivan Dunleavy, in representation of Pinewood Shepperton, assured that the studios in the country will be a way of reaching several regions of the world.

Also present were the First Lady Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, Great Britain´s Ambassador in the country, Steven Fisher, the ministers of Culture and Education, José R. Lantigua and Melanio Paredes, respectively, among other special guests, such as entrepreneurs, local movie makers, Dominican artists, and journalists.

Progreso Assets Increase by 24.1%

Santo Domingo. The Banco del Progreso main indicators increased considerably in 2011, thus registering an increase by 24.1%, and their net credit portfolio by 27.3%.

So was informed by Mark Silverman, the CEO of Banco del Progreso upon presenting the preliminary results of 2011.

Silverman indicated that the total assets registered an increase of RD$7,056million, closing their fiscal year with an amount increasing to RD$36,281 million, equal to 24.1%, with regards to their 2010 closing, while the multiple banking segment registered an increase in their total asset portfolio by 15%.

Silverman expressed that their net credit portfolio closed with a total of RD$16,319 million, registering an increase of RD$3,495million, equal to a 27% growth.

The Banco  Progreso formally inaugurated the renewed offices for its Naco branch, now  an example of how the banking organization continues to apply their new branch office model, client-focused and showing their renewed corporate image.

The act, headed by Francisco Concepción VP of Personal Business, Bernardo Martínez, VP Marketing, as well as members of the Banco del Progreso Board of Directors.

The locale was blessed by Father Marciano García of the San Judas Tadeo Parish.

Indomina Will Film “Cabin Fever: Patient Zero” in the DR

SANTO DOMINGO. The comic book artist, Kaare Andrews is in his final negotiation stage to debut as director in the horror film “Cabin Fever: Patient Zero”, a sequel to be filmed between the U.S and the D.R, featuring funding and distribution by Indomina Group.

The sequel will narrate the origin of the flesh-eating virus, and which served as baseline for the original 2002 film, which was directed by Eli Roth. The new film depicts the passengers of a cruise ship docking in a Caribbean island. They need to find a way to survive the illness which is consuming them. Jake Jade Wall, whom wrote the remake for “The Hitcher”, is responsible for the screenplay.

The producer for the original “Cabin Fever”, Evan Astrowsky, is producing another film with Indomina. The plan is that after this film, they continue with a sequel, which will be called “Cabin Fever: Outbreak”. Jasbinder Singh Mann, CEO of Indomina Group is the executive producer. According to information published in the Hollywood Reporter website, filming will take place in the Dominican Republic.

Andrews is known for his writing and art work done at Marvel Comics, where he worked as graphic artist for “The Incredible Hulk”, “Ultimate X-Men” and “SpiderMan: Reign”. Currently he is drawing the cover art for the relaunching the Marvel Ultimate comics. He debut during the supernatural horror drama “Altitude” which starred the 90210 series actress, Jessica Lowndes.  In 2007, Ti West, produced a sequel to Cabin Fever, called “Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever”. The same flopped at the box office.

The establishment features three waiting areas, information, and also a meeting room and self-service station, which was blessed by Father Marciano García, of the San Judas Tadeo Parish.

Francisco Concepción, VP Personal Business for Banco del Progreso, expressed that the banking entity is focused on offering its clientele an efficient and quality service, which drives them to perform the necessary changes so that the branch offices can show a more modern an innovative image.

SD. Following the maritime tradition of exchanging of plaques when a cruise ship makes port for the very first time, a protocol event was celebrated in honor of the arrival of the Kristina Katarina to Sans Souci, port of Santo Domingo.

This ritual took charge at the hand of the Mikko Partanen, captain of the ship; Victor Macarrulla, member of the Executive Committee of Sans Soucí Ports and Alex Schad, of the Schad Naval Agency, entities responsible for the first docking of the Kristina Katarina ship in Dominican soil

Partanen manifested his gratitude for the warm welcome coordinated by Sans Soucí Ports, Schad Naval Agencies and Dominican authorities.

Santo Domingo. The Banco del Progreso key indicators increased in 2011, registering a total asset increase of 24.1%, and their net credit portfolio by 27.3%. So was informed by Mark Silverman, CEO of Banco del Progreso upon disclosing the preliminary results for the 2011 fiscal year.

Silverman pointed out that amid that period the banking organization continued the consolidation of their commercial dynamism and indicated that the total assets registered an increase of RD$7,056 million, closing their fiscal year with a total RD$36,281million, equal to 24.1% increase, with respects to the 2010 closing, while Multiple Banking presented an increase in their total asset portfolio by 15%.
