Regarding the denunciation made by the British and Northern Ireland Ambassador in the DR, Steven Fisher, regarding extortion made to a British company in the DR, he held that the authorities are interested in solving any type of situation that could represent a conflict to foreign investment, and even more if related to the role of public authorities.

“Great Britain is considered the fifth nation to have invested the most in the country and it is the obligation of the Dominican authorities including the CEI-RD to investigate the denunciation issued by the UK Ambassador, regarding the insecurity for foreign investment, and especially to the company originating from their nation which left the country due to the extortion it underwent”, explained Martínez when being interrogated about the issue. However, he requested Ambassador Fisher concrete information concerning his complaint.

Likewise, the Cable and Wireless (LIME): issued an investment of RD$175million pesos and the creation of an approximate 131 jobs with the collocation of an underwater cable that will link the Dominican Republic to Jamaica, thus tripling bandwidth and diminishing internet usage costs. Pinewood Indomina Studios, seizing the excellent climate for investment and the recently approved Tax Incentive Film Law, which contemplated tax benefits for the film industry, has merged with Pinewood Shepperton Studios, Indomina Group and Grupo VICINI to build the most modern film studio in Latin America, reason why they are investing over USD$50million dollars in Juan Dolio, thus generating over 65 direct jobs.
