Accompanied by special guests, businessmen and media executives, the company Parmalat Dominicana, launched the new Santal Light fruit-based drink in the Dominican market, with 50% less calories, in UHT format.

Technological Development motorizes industrialization of dairy in DR

The technological development, which has led to investments surpassing over USD$40M, motorizes the industrialization of the D.R dairy sector. Pasteurizadora Rica (Grupo Rica), Parmalat, Sigma (Sosúa), Induveca (Mercasid), Ladom, Nestlé Dominicana, Leche Fresca (*Fresh Milk) and other companies have invested great sums of money in technological development, which translates to products of greater quality, with the most cutting edge technologies.

PASTRY INDUSTRIES

At Piloto, on the Northwestern region; Santiago de los Caballeros, Baní, Hato Mayor, Higuey, Navarrete, Bonao and other places, where the pastry industry may cause positive impact, milk is industrialized. Located in Bonao, are the factories for Dulces Rodríguez Pena, Turey and others whom combine milk with sugar, and other local raw materials, which gives an even greater added value.

Same happens in Baní, the pastry capital, with milk industrialized by the Dulcería Las Marías, Tres Rosas (Three Roses), El Húngaro (The Hungarian) y tens of pastry shops that have been forced to invest in technologies, mixing milk with pineapple, orange, figs, and other Dominican fruit.

CHEESE

Cheese factories that function in Higuey, El Seibo, Puerto Plata, Hato Mayor, Santiago Rodríguez, Santo Domingo, Baní, Las Matas de Farfán, San Juan de la Maguana, Azua, Monte Plata, Bonao and other towns such as Laguna Salada (*Salt Lagoon, the Valverde province, there is a very high demand of milk as raw material for producing cheese.
Sigma, whom produces Sosúa products; Pasteurizadora Rica, INDUVECA, Leche Fresca (Fresh Milk), and other companies, produce excellent quality cheese.

New Santal Light Beverage is Launched in the Market

The company Parmalat Dominicana launched in the market the new Santal Light, a refreshing and healthy fruit-based juice beverage, in ultra pasteurized format or UHT (*initials in English), and with 50% less calories.

The event took place at the Taboo Bamboo Restaurant, where various executives from the above mentioned company attended, as well as special guests.

Roberto Amodio, General Manager for Parmalat Dominicana, addressed the attending public, where the thanked all for the given support.

“Santal was born parting from research and studies applied by the Parmalat innovation committee, which comprises the Marketing, Quality and Operations areas”, said Amodio.

On another tenor, Marjorie Mariñez, Marketing Manager for the brand, explained that “Santal is market leader in the fruit-based UHT beverages, and is recognized by consumers as a quality brand of delicious and natural taste. The new beverage format is available in two flavors: Peach and Pear Light”.

MSC Cruise Lines Will Begin Operations in SD Port

The Italian-based cruise line MSC, will begin operations in the country during cruise season 2012-2013, announced the Ministry of Tourism after concluding negotiations between the Ministry, company executives and the General Direction of the Port of Santo Domingo. The service will begin in December 2012 till February 2014, using the Sans Soucí Terminal as Home Port. The initial departure is scheduled for Wednesday December 20th, 2012, and will dock the next day in the port of La Romana, as transit port, which will allow passengers the opportunity to prolong their stay in the Dominican Republic.

“By finalizing the dialogue, in which the MSC executives ended up very satisfied with the agreed-upon terms, we want to announce that MSC will begin to dock at Dominican ports amid cruise season for 2012-2013, with the advantage that Sans Soucí will be used as Home Port, or Main Port, during the last ten bell rings, which will allow prolonged stays to all visitors whom wish to stay longer”, so informed the Minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier García.

The cruise vessel to be used by MSC Cruise, a division of Mediterranean Shipping Company, is the MSC Lirica, with 795 cabins and capacity for 2,199 passengers, thus increasing the number of tourists whom would arrive to Santo Domingo and the Colonial City, favoring the area economy.

The executives for MSC Cruise, thanked the support of the Ministry of Tourism and the government facilities offered in order to reach these accords, to formally commence this new cruise ship service for Santo Domingo and La Romana, and they hope to be prolonged beyond 2013. This is another important achievement attained by the Ministry of Tourism and their authorities, he assured.

Jonathan Castro a Prize in Japan

The two-time national Drift champion, Jonathan Castro is already in Japan, where he will compete against the best circuit pilots in the mythical Ebisu autodrome, located north of Tokyo.

The Dominican from Progreso Drift Team will be in Japan for a week, where asides competing, he will partake in some special trainings thus seeking to improve his competition level, and revalidate this championship title at the National DRIFT Championship, Castro is the first Dominican driver to compete at this level, and the first ever to be invited to Japan, birthplace of the DRIFT discipline.

At the race, over 40 drivers will compete from the USA, Korea, Australia, Germany, Japan, China, Argentina, among other countries where Drift is an en vogue sport.

“This competition is vital for my career, because of the international significance it has, and also for the training I will be receiving, which will allow me to be better prepared to defend my title in the Dominican Republic”, said Castro, whom thanked Banco del Progreso for the financial support they have provided for the championship as well as this particular test.

Castro acquired a Nissan vehicle to participate in Japan, and after using it at the same, he hopes to bring it to the D.R so it will serve as a training unit for drivers as well as for instruction for people interested in DRIFT practice.
